On 2 October 2018, arriving from London, Jamal Khashoggi, a Saudi Arabian writer, went into the Saudi consulate in Istanbul to collect routine marriage papers. Within fifteen minutes of entering he was brutally assassinated. According to the CIA, the disappearance of the fifty-nine-year-old had been orchestrated by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Afterwards Khashoggi’s body was disposed of in trash bags via a back entrance, with no word as to his disappearance. Ignorant of the horror taking place less than thirty yards away from her, Khashoggi’s fiancée had stood waiting outside until midnight.
