Read OnlineThis novel is a crime and detective story very similar to the "Noir" genre of crime/detective stories of the 1940's and 1950's...except the story is not typical "Noir." Some of the characters in the story are "shady" and self serving by design, but some (including the protagonist) are of chivalrous character and sympathetic. The story is set in Santa Fe, New Mexico in the early 1940's (the years of World War II) when there were actual spies from the USSR, and many FBI agents in Santa Fe and the small city was buzzing with activity due to America's Atomic Research at Los Alamos. At the same time Santa Fe and Taos New Mexico were taking on new identities and becoming important centers for artists to create and display their works. This story summarized is about smuggled art, WWII spies, and a former police detective turned Private Investigator trying to start a new career after being fired by the Albuquerque Police Department.
