When the cursed Dresden arrives in a Midwest town marked for death, he encounters Essie, a girl who suffers from debilitating delusions and hallucinations. But Essie doesn’t see a monster when she looks at Dresden. Risking his own life, Dresden holds back his curse and spares her.
