After accepting a twelve-month contract as a writer with the BBC he stayed for thirty-six years. During his time at the BBC he produced Just a Minute, Dr Finlay's Casebook and wrote for Morecambe and Wise and The Two Ronnies. On leaving the BBC in 1991, Edward returned to the theatre and has written six plays. He now lives in Hampstead with his wife and remains a firm supporter of Essex cricket and Southend United Football Club.
