Jude the Obsure

This romance novel was the last of Thomas Hardy's novels, published in 1895. Jude Fawley, a village stonemason, dreams of becoming a scholar but finds himself struggling through several romances. He finds love but faces social ostracization, a wayward child, murdered children, and religious guilt.
