“What do you want?” Jared tilted his head.

“I don’t even know anymore.” Killian shook his head. “I don’t know what’s right or what’s wrong. It’s all just a muddled mess these days.”

“I feel the same way,” Jared admitted. “It’s like I don’t know what to do about the stuff that’s happening in my life.”

Killian sighed and leaned away from the carpenter. “This kind of thing is never easy, is it?”

“Just to be clear, are we talking about the break-in or us?”

The actor laughed. “A little bit of both?”

“Or are we using veiled language about the break-in to talk about us? I’m good with that too.”

“And this is why I have trouble keeping my hands off of you.” Killian shook his head. “You’re so honest sometimes.”

“Or I just want to be sure we’re on the same page.” Jared shrugged with a smirk on his lips. “I know it’s been tough and I don’t want to make it tougher.”

“I think I just need to get out of here.” Killian sighed.

“That may be a good idea.”

That’s when the knock sounded on the door. It was loud enough that they could hear it all the way from the office. Someone was outside and wanting to talk to them. “I wonder who would be coming by at this time of night?”

“No clue.” Jared got up and headed for the door.

Killian followed. He noticed that Jared was acting a little protective, making sure that he was going to take the lead in that situation. He wondered why Jared would be so worried about that, but maybe it was because the actor had been a bit vulnerable. “I’m not expecting anyone, but I’ve had a lot of good wishers about this. It’s probably just one of them.”

“Yeah, I’m sure it’s that.” Jared got to the door in no time and opened the door.

  “You.” Killian frowned heavily.

“You know them?” Jared turned around.

“He’s looking at a play we’re putting on.” The lead guy at the other side of the door offered a smile.

“What did you need?” Killian didn’t back up to invite them in. This wasn’t something that he needed.

“Just came to see how you’re doing.” The man shrugged. “I heard about the break-in and wanted to see if maybe we could help.”

“I think we’re doing all right.”

Jared remained silent. Something seemed to be bothering him, but he didn’t say anything about what it was.

Killian felt his guard raise, glancing over at Jared for a second.

The gentleman on the other side of the door put on a slick smile. “Are you sure? I don’t mind helping you out.”

“Really, our crew is pretty solid. They’ve pretty much got this all handled. But if you hear anything about who did it you could pass that information on to the police.” Killian offered.

“I’ll be sure to do that. I hate to ask, but have you gotten a chance to look over my play again?”

“I’m afraid I’ve been pretty busy so far.” Killian sighed. “I haven’t had a chance to do much.”

“I understand, of course. If you need me to fill any gaps, I can get this play going in no time.”

“I’ll keep that in mind.” He frowned, feeling a little odd about this entire situation as the man excused himself and walked away.

Jared closed the door. He still had that frown on his face. The man just did not look happy.

“What did you think?” Killian led the way back to his office.

“I feel like he’s the guy that did it.”

  “What did you see?”

“Just the way he walked and talked and stuff.”

They got into the office and the actor paused to turn around and look at the man. “Huh?”

“His physicality. It reminded me of the guys that broke in.”

Killian shook his head. He knew the guy, and even if he didn’t like the man’s constant attempts to get his theatre to show the play, he found it hard to believe. “I fail to see why he would be the one to do it.”

  “What’s his play about?”

“It’s just generally terrible. He keeps trying to get a place to take it, but no one wants to.”

Jared didn’t look very happy about any of the things that he was hearing. “Does he try a lot?”

  “Yeah.”

Jared sighed and ran his hands through his hair. He looked worried. It was not a good look for the man and it made Killian want to wrap his arms around him and make him feel better in any way he could. “He’s pretty desperate, right?”

  “Seems to be.”

“Desperate enough to sabotage another show?”

Killian frowned as he thought about it. It kind of made sense at least, but he didn’t want to admit it. He shook his head again, trying to make it so those little doubts exited his head. “I’m not so sure about it.”

“I’m not positive either. And it’s nothing that would stand up in court.” Jared shook his head. “But I just have this awful feeling about it.”

“Maybe we can figure out some way to find out if it’s him.”

“We can at least try.” Killian shrugged, but he really didn’t think anything would come of it. Even if those guys did break into the theatre, proving it would be extremely difficult.

  Chapter Eleven

He couldn’t have said how the conversation led to this. But there they were, in Killian’s office, hands all over each other. The heat was undeniable and out of control. They couldn’t stop, one moment they were talking, then they had been touching, Jared softly caressing Killian’s cheek as the actor moved in for a kiss.

By that point, it had been all over. No chance of turning back. They were going to do the thing that they were already dying to do. They were going to touch each other, feel the heat they passed into each other. They needed the touch.

Jared’s body craved it. Killian had become a sort of obsession whenever they were too close. All he could think about was being closer to him, of kissing him. And as clothes were being tossed to the side, those thoughts just increased. He wanted more of this man. He wanted to be closer to him. He wanted Killian. All that he could get of Killian.

Clothes were being tossed to the side, quickly removed and discarded without a care in the world about where they would land. Like in a movie, a shirt hit the light fixture and slid right off, landing in a puddle on the floor. Jared didn’t care to notice it as he slipped his pants down to his ankles stepping out of them and kicking them off to the side without breaking the wild kiss.

His heart was beating like it was going to explode out of his chest. It might have hurt if it was beating any harder, but it was right there, at the sweet spot of lust and out of control need for another.

Killian’s hands were all over him, running down the flesh of his sides.

He moaned as their bodies came together again, touching once again. This time there was absolutely nothing between them. Just skin on skin, body to body. Electricity flowed through his body. He could feel the other man shivering under his touch, shudders that echoed right through his entire body.

He groaned against the actor’s lips. “I’ve been waiting for this for so long.”

Killian grunted as he was pushed against the desk. The man was hot to the touch. It made him want to moan just touching him. Jared wasn’t waiting for much. “God above. I wanted this too.” The actor’s voice was breathy and heavy.

“Do you have anything.” Jared groaned in frustration. “Anything to help?” He was hinting at it, but he knew that his friend knew exactly what the man was getting at.

“Drawer. Don’t know why I kept it there.” Killian moaned as Jared’s hands found their way down his body and traced the heat of his flesh. He wanted to touch the man more, feel the heat of his skin all over him.

Jared reached into the drawer of the desk. The lube in there had to have been a little older, but that sort of thing keeps well enough. He wondered how long it had been since Killian had entertained another huma
n being like this.

Killian dropped down to his knees, kissing around the carpenter’s manhood before taking the entire thing into his mouth in one smooth motion.

Jared couldn’t help but groan as the mouth encompassed his shaft, taking it deeply, while the tongue swirled around him. “If you keep doing that…” He warned. The carpenter knew that he wasn’t going to last forever.

“I’ll stop.” Killian pulled back. His breath was heavy and his skin was flushed with lust and desire. That just made Jared want him more than he ever had wanted this man more, something that he didn’t even think was possible.

Jared pulled the man up to kiss him again, leaning forward so Killian was leaning against the desk.

Killian pulled away only long enough to bend over the desk. Jared glanced at the bottle as he poured a bit into his hand and started to work it around himself and then into Killian.

The touch made Killian gasp with lust as he felt himself get harder and harder with the small noises that Jared made as he readied the other man for what was going to come.

Killian was already mostly ready to go by the time Jared gently worked himself inside of the other man. It was like heaven. He felt Killian’s moans reverberate through him and enter his soul. It sounded like everything that he had ever hoped to feel.

Something about this felt different than it had with anyone else. He felt the sort of pounding in his chest as he moved his body against the man that he was with. He didn’t want it to end, reaching around Killian’s body so that he could stroke the man as he moved.

Killian’s groans got louder, less controlled.

It was wild and pure and wonderful. This was something magical that he couldn’t stop himself from feeling all of it.

There was something in the back of his mind that was screaming at him. He was falling in love. Somehow, through all of this, he had found himself craving the touch of Killian. This man commanded so much of his attention.

They finished together, crying out into the empty theatre.

Killian was breathing heavily as Jared pulled away from him. “God…” He groaned.

“I know.” Jared heaved for air.

“I… I don’t know if that was a bad idea or not, but it was amazing.”

  “I know.” Jared nodded.”

“I… I hope we didn’t screw anything up…” The actor suddenly looked worried about something.

Jared knew exactly what the concern was. It hit him just as hard. “I don’t know, I hope it doesn’t.”

  “I’m sorry.”

“You’ve got nothing to be sorry for.” Jared shook his head.

  “You sure?”

“I’m sure. We’re both consenting adults that knew what was going on.” Jared nodded. He was saying that as much for himself as he was for Killian.

“We need to figure us out.” Killian sighed and slipped down to sit on the floor.

Jared joined him, sitting and facing him. “I’m looking for a new job. Then we can figure out where we stand.”

“We still can’t keep our hands off each other.”

Jared frowned and nodded. “I know. I don’t really know what to say about it, I guess. I know that I want to be with you and that I’m willing to find someplace else to work so it’s not anything weird or anything.”

Killian sighed. “Is it bad that I wish that you didn’t have to get a different job?”

Jared shook his head. “No. Not at all.” He sighed heavily and brushed the hair back out of his face. “I guess I feel the same way. I know that it’s not professional or anything.”

“It’s not, but I don’t know. Maybe it’ll be fine.” Killian frowned.

Jared didn’t like seeing the man frown. Especially not after such a magical moment that had been shared between them. “Let’s not worry about that right now.”

  “We should probably get dressed.”

Jared nodded and reached for his clothes. “The last thing we need is more rumors going around about us.”

“Yeah, we need some time to figure out what we’re going to do.” Killian dressed quickly, walking around to gather up everything that had been tossed to the side. “I still don’t know. I’m not usually this type of guy.”

“I don’t know what to do either. I’ve had a couple of boyfriends, but nothing ever comes over me like this.” Jared glanced at Killian’s face. The man had the slightest smile on his face. “I really don’t know what it is that comes over me when I’m around you.”

“You feel that way too? I’m usually a lot better at controlling myself.”

“I know.” Jared leaned back against the desk as he pulled on his socks. “I’m sorry. I feel like I just can’t stop myself when I’m around you.”

“I wish I could. I would love to just be professional.” Killian shook his head. He was dressing faster than Jared was, so the man was already done.

It was before Jared could respond that the crash came. The alarm sounded loud and both of them ducked out of habit.

They were still in the closed office, so they had no idea where the sound was from, but it had to have been the glass doors up at the front of the place.

  “Call the cops,” Killian whispered.

Jared ducked below the level of the desk and pulled his phone out of his pocket. His hands were shaking slightly as he dialed the number in.

The dispatcher answered. “911. What is your emergency?” She sounded almost bored. That made some sense because she must get calls of people panicking all of the time.

Jared gave them the address. “We’re being broken into right now.”

  “Are you someplace safe?”

Jared nodded even if the woman on the other end of the line couldn’t see him. After a second he remembered that he had to say something. He kept his voice low when he spoke so no one could hear him. “We’re in an office.”

“Does the door have a lock?”

Jared looked up at Killian and repeated the question.

Killian nodded. “Yeah. I’ll go lock the door.”

“He’s going to go lock the door.” Jared started talking to the woman on the phone once again.

“Good. Just stay safe where you are if you can.”

Then everything switched to slow motion. It was like the world just stopped. He couldn’t have said what had happened.

As Killian got to the door, it burst open. A man rushed in toward them.

Jared froze. He couldn’t respond for a few seconds until the guy pulled a gun on Killian.

That got his attention and he burst into action. Later he couldn’t have said what came over him, but he charged over the desk, leaping into action and tackling the man to the ground. He had tossed his phone off to the side, screaming in rage and hatred. “Don’t you touch him.”

It was amazing how much clarity that moment could bring him, slamming his body against the gunman. The man had no training. Otherwise, the blindside would never have worked. The man went down and Jared realized why he had lost his mind. He was in love. He loved the man that had been threatened and was ready to die to protect him.

The man struggled with him. They were rolling around on the floor, grappling as they fought over the gun. It was hard to get a handle on it, but he managed to push it away. “Get the gun!” Jared shouted.

Killian scrambled for the gun, trying to grab it before the other man could.

He got it. The actor probably didn’t know how to use the gun, but at least it wasn’t in the hand of whoever had broken into the theatre.

And the man was held down. Jared had him held tightly, even if the guy was trying to wiggle out of his grasp. “Oh no, you don’t,” the carpenter grunted in frustration.

“Let me go!” The man shouted while he wildly flailed his arms around, trying to get Jared to let him go.

“Oh, hell no. You stay right the fuck there.” Jared slammed the man’s hands back down.

Once it got quieter from the fight, they realized that they could hear people moving
around outside of the office.

“Get out of here!” Killian shouted. He sounded angry and upset by this. Jared couldn’t blame him for that, because this was his place, something that he had put his love and affection into.

He looked ready to bolt outside of the room.

The sounds moved toward the doors and must have left because soon it got quiet. Killian turned back around and picked up the phone, talking to the woman on the other end of the line. “Hi. We’re alive. We have one of the guys pinned down.”

Killian paused while the lady asked some questions.

“Yeah. I don’t know. Dude had a gun. Came in and pointed it at us. I have the gun now. The guy is pinned down.” He spoke quickly, keeping his voice low in case the other people hadn’t left yet.

Killian’s hands were shaking as he got quiet again, letting the woman speak.

Jared grimaced. “He’s trying to hit me.”

“Can you please hurry?” Killian was starting to panic a little bit. “I don’t know what this guy is gonna do if he gets loose.”

  Another quiet moment.

Killian turned back to look at Jared. “Hey. She says the cops are pulling up in front of the place now.”

“Thank God.” Jared breathed in a sigh of relief. But he didn’t let go of the guy that he had a hold of.

The man that he was pinning down was wearing a mask. Suddenly that registered in his head. He didn’t know why he hadn’t mentioned it before.

Killian looked a little concerned. “Do you have him?”

“For the moment.” The carpenter’s voice gave solid affirmation.

“I’m heading out to meet the cops.”

Jared nodded. “Yeah, get them to hurry, please?”

The man tried to jerk away. He nearly got loose. Jared grunted as the elbow connected with his gut, but he didn’t let go.

Killian rushed out of the room. “Yeah.”

Within a few seconds, there were other men in the room. The rest of it was a rush of the guy being dragged to his feet from under his body. Jared watched as the man had the mask pulled off of his face.

“Really?” Killian was taken aback by the sight of the man.

“Do you know this guy?” The cop asked.
